Reopening Plans

How will I know when Jim Smith Karate is open?


We are working closely with local and state health orginizations to ensure that we are adhering to their guidlines. When our facility is scheduled to reopen, you will be the first to know! You can also check our Facebook page for updates as well.




How should I prepare for going back to karate?


We ask that all members and parents be considerate of others and practice proper social distancing and to always be sure to wear an adequate face mask at all times while at our facility. We have provided personal protective equipment (PPE) to our team members including masks which will be required for staff to wear, and gloves to use for extensive cleaning. Effective September 1, members and guests are required to wear a mask except while actively working out and in accordance with local restrictions. (more information on our mask policy can be found in the FAQs below). We will continue to follow the recommendations of local authorities at our facility in order to take every necessary precaution to ensure the safety of our community. As always, please stay home if you’re not feeling well. Don’t worry, we will be here for you when you feel better!




What are Jim Smith Karate plans to reopening?


In accordance with local officials, we have been working on safely reopening our facility. At Jim Smith Karate, the safety of our team and members is our top priority. We have taken a number of steps to protect the health and well-being of our team members, members and guests which include enhanced cleanliness and sanitization policies and procedures, physical distancing measures, reducing physical touch points, and more. Now more than ever it's important to stay active, in order to stay healthy, and we look forward to safely and responsibly welcoming you back!





Mask Policy

What is the Jim Smith Karate mask policy?


Your health and safety is our #1 priority, and we're committed to keeping our facility clean and safe. For the enhanced safety of our members, guests and team members, masks are now required except while actively working out, and in accordance with local restrictions, effective September 1, 2020. This means that a mask must be worn at all times, and in accordance with local restrictions, in the facility (except while actively training) including when entering and exiting the facility, in between the main entrance/lobby and training floor, cleaning, and while in the locker room. While you are actively working out, you do not need to have a mask on. Wearing a mask in public is proven to help reduce the spread of COVID-19, and as a leader in the karate industry, and your long-term partner in health and wellness, we are committed to doing everything in our power to ensure the health and safety of our Jim Smith Karate community. Thank you in advance for your support and adherence to this policy. This added safety precaution also helps us to remain open to serve you and keep you healthy and active.




Are members and guests required to wear masks at all times?


Members and guests are required to wear a mask except while actively working out and in accordance with local restrictions. This includes upon entering and exiting the facility, and while in the facility except while actively working out, and in accordance with local restrictions, or behind a private enclosure (bathroom, changing room, etc.) or drinking.




Do I have to wear a mask while training?


No, members and guests are NOT required to wear a mask while actively training but must follow all local restrictions. But remember, members and guests must have a mask unless they are actively training (and in accordance with all local restrictions) such as when individuals are entering and exiting the facility, cleaning equipment, and while enter the training mat. For the safety of all our members, the Jim Smith Karate team members will be required to wear a face mask while training with our members.




What if I prefer to not wear a mask, or have a medical exception and cannot wear a mask?


Effective September 1, masks will be required at all times except while actively training, and in accordance with local restrictions. If you have a medical exception that prohibits you from wearing a mask, or you prefer not to wear one, please reach out to Jim Smith Karate.




What if I forget my mask?


We will have disposable masks available if a member or guest forgets their mask or you can purchase a Jim Smith Karate face mask. We’d be happy to provide one to you!




Are team members required to wear a mask?


Yes, team members are required to wear a mask at all times during their shift for their safety, and the safety of others.

Wear your Mask Correctly

  • Wash your hands before putting it on
  • Put it over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin
  • Try to fit it snugly against the sides of your face
  • Make sure you can breathe easily





Cleanliness Procedures

What are you doing to keep members and team members safe?


Your health and safety is our #1 priority, and we're committed to keeping our facility clean and safe. As a leader in the Karate industry, we’ve always had extremely high cleanliness and sanitization standards in place. Our team members conduct regular and thorough cleaning of all equipment, surfaces, and areas of the facility and regularly complete deep cleanings. Although we cannot eliminate all risks associated with COVID-19, we've taken several additional steps to strengthen our existing cleanliness policies and procedures to help keep you and our team members safe when our facility reopens. Below are some of the changes you can expect when our facility reopens:

  • Team members will receive daily temperature checks and wear a mask during their shift
  • Effective September 1, 2020 - members and guests are required to wear a mask at all times for their safety and the safety of others
  • All team members will have completed extensive training related to our enhanced cleanliness and sanitization policies and procedures
  • Increased, thorough cleaning will be conducted using disinfectant on the EPA list effective against COVID-19. This includes 20-minute walk arounds by our team to continually clean and sanitize high-touch areas
  • Increased sanitization stations will be available throughout the facility for member use.
  • We have reduced the amount of seating in our lobby for our parents and guests, so please plan accordinglly.
  • New signage will be placed throughout the facility that highlights our sanitization and social distancing guidelines
  • Jim Smith Karate may be temporarily modified based on local guidelines and restrictions.
  • Additional information about operating hours or other local guidelines that may apply can be found on our website.




Do you have hand sanitizer for member use?


Yes, we do! You will find increased sanitization stations throughout the facility, fully stocked with disinfected spray and hand sanitizer. We want to keep our JSK community strong and healthy!




How will I know if Jim Smith Karate has capacity restrictions or modified hours?


Check out our Schedule to find out if your training time has a change in hours or capacity limitations.




What can members do to stay safe?


Here’s how you can be considerate and do your part to help keep our JSK community healthy:

  • The CDC recommends you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water before training
  • Remember to disinfect equipment before and after use
  • Maintain physical distance between members and team members

What are you doing to keep team members safe?


We couldn’t do it without our awesome JSK team members, and their health and safety is our priority. We are providing all team members with PPE such as masks and gloves. They have conducted extensive training on our enhanced cleanliness and sanitization policies and procedures upon returning to work. Additionally, all team members will have their temperatures taken when they arrive for work each day.
